On this week’s Two-Stroke Tuesday we unveil our latest Yamaha YZ125 project with Pete Treadwell and the crew at Western Powersports. This steel framed beast was actually a Yamaha of Troy race machine for Josh Hansen back in the early 2000s.
Pete Treadwell worked with a variety of industry leading companies like Michelin, Acerbis, ODI, Works Connection Fire Power, SDG and Turner wheels.
Turner wheels are a private label product for Motosport Outlet. At this time the retail price is $799.99 a set, and that includes front & rear rotors and a sprocket. Pricing is subject to change in the future. The wheels are constructed with Hubs precision built from extruded billet 6061 aluminum and T6 heat treated. Rim is made with 7075 aluminum and T6 heat treated with SKF bearings, Swedish-made stainless-steel spokes paired with high-strength brass nipples.
ODI CFT Podium bars and lock-on grips are mounted up on the stock triple clamps.
Jeff at SDG made an all white seat cover with black ribs to go with the overall build scheme.
Multiple hard parts from Western Powersports Fire Power line are used on the build. The pegs, complete drive train shifter and stand are all Fire Power products.
The custom Fushion Graphics gave the YZ125 a clean look that will make it stand out no matter how big the crowd is. www.fusiongraphix.com
2-STROKE BEHIND THE BUILD
We have built a lot of project bikes with Justin Myerson from Motowhips over the years and are always blown away with each bike. This KX125 is Justin’s personal bike and took almost two years to build in between working on customer builds. It features an updated KX250 four-stroke front end with a mounting kit using a newer four-stroke gas tank, subframe and modified airbox, allowing the use of newer plastics and changing the overall look. Motowhips worked with other industry-leading fabricators to come up with a kit that allows newer KX four-stroke plastics to be used on this early 2000s KX two-stroke.
