In this weeks Two-Stroke Tuesday brought to you by Boyesen we introduce you to Wayne Ransom and his KX500AF build that will be featured in an upcoming issue of the magazine. The build is scheduled to be completed in the spring but we couldn’t wait to show you what he is working on. Don’t worry we still have room for cool 2-stroke hardware and videos. Don’t forget to scroll all the way down to see what could be featured next week!
Got a chance to wrap up this KX500 compression release by adding the cast texture back into the compression release bung.
The moment some of you have been waiting for..Totally disrespecting this perfectly good KX450 frame. Time to clean up the “Y” and remove the rest of the factory frame rails from the spars. Side note: I use a hardwood top steel bench to do my aluminum work on. A steel bench will destroy the finish on the aluminum part you spend so much time trying to make nice.
Right frame rail fit up. I’ll clean up the tubes to remove surface imperfections before tacking into position. Onto the left.
Back in the shop on the rainy Christmas Eve day in glorious Southern New Jersey. About to carve some more on these billet motor mounts. While I do, check out this pic of the cradle tube fit. Fit like this is only achieved (kxf chassis) when you incorporate the second bend in the tube. Filling gaps is a no-no on structural applications as it creates a weak weld. If it’s decorative it’s ok. But this chassis is going to see some serious 100ft+ hits when it’s done. The last thing I want OR my test rider wants.. is to be approaching a monster hit with a machine performance/integrity question in their mind.
Right cradle tube Y joint and front motor mount. I would like to see more consistency in my weld beads but I have not welded consistently for quite some time now. My day projects are broken up of design, engineering, sheet metal forming, welding, and machining. So it is very difficult to maintain a high proficiency in all these areas. I welded these joints with 4643 filler because the frame will be heat treated when finished.

SC1 High gloss coating is specifically formulated to coat plastic, fiberglass, carbon fiber, metal and painted surfaces. Makes the clean up process easier – excellent for use under fenders and wheel wells to prevent mud and dirt from adhering to plastic. When applied to surface is water resistant and leaves a long lasting luster and sheen.
