ALTA CLOSES ITS DOORS
This morning there are reports that Alta motorcycles has shut its doors, at least temporarily. According to Asphalt and Rubber, the company sent its San Francisco work force home early with no clear plans for reopening. Recently, Harley-Davidson had ended its relationship with Alta, which had been a part of H-D’s own effort to develop electric power trains. Now, Harley has opened its own San Francisco-based office for that purpose.
Alta had plans to compete in several events, including the Red Bull Straight Rhythm and EnduroCross. Darryn Durham’s entry was pulled from Straight Rhythm, and Ty Tremaine showed up at the EnduroCross riding a factory Beta.
