ADELANTO GRAN PRIX 2001–FEB 3

The 2001 Desert Vipers Adelanto GP was held this weekend and fans were treated to some great racing and good weather. Although Saturday?s course was a bit sketchy (long, high speed straights with scary bombs littered everywhere), the racing action was top notch, and featured some of off-road racing?s biggest names.

Saturday?s Pro Event saw Destry Abbott taking the checkers, followed by Ty Davis in second, and Steve Hengeveld in third. “I was really pleased with my performance in the Pro race because the earlier races hadn?t gone that well for me,” said Destry following the race. The old adage that sometimes it?s better to be lucky than good came to pass for Abbott when Shane Esposito broke his rear wheel with about three laps to go. Abbott went on to say that choosing to ride the 250 was a good decision. “I would have gotten too tired had I ridden the 500, the 250 really helped out in the rough stuff.”

Zip Ty on the other hand, actually suffered some bad luck in the Pro race, as a bad start and Scott Myers? 520 got in the way of Davis competing for the checkers. “I went with my YZ256 so the time I made up on the tighter portions of the track was lost on the high speed straights,” said Ty. Myers? KTM finally blew up and allowed Ty to grab second, and Hengeveld completed the podium with a third place finish.
