2023 GLENDALE SUPERCROSS RESULTS

Easter weekend brought the Monster Energy Supercross series to Glendale, Arizona for round 12 of the 2023 season. This was another Triple Crown event, meaning that the top riders in each class faced off three times. Their scores were combined at the end of the night to declare an overall winner. In the 450 class, Eli Tomac pulled clear of everyone else with a 1-2-1 score and now has sole ownership of the red place. For Jett Lawrence, it was his first Triple Crown win with a 1-3-1 tally.  For extended coverage of the 2023 Monster Energy Supercross season, click here.

450 RACE 1

Eli Tomac made the first 450 race look easy. Cooper Webb remained within striking distance throughout the race, but couldn’t make anything happen. Chase Sexton got a poor start, but came through the pack to pass Ken Roczen for fourth late in the race.

450 RACE TWO

In 450 race two,  it was Sexton’s turn to dominate. He got the start and survived an early challenge from Eli Tomac, then gradually pulled away. The best entertainment was watching Cooper Webb get frustrated back in fifth. he made a hasty attempt at passing Jason Anderson, but it backfired and Justin Barcia went past. It was on the very last lap that Webb regained fifth place from Barcia. Jason Anderson made a serious attempt at passing Roczen for third on that lap as well, but it didn’t work.

450 RACE 3

Eli Tomac came into Glendale tied for the points lead. He left 7 points ahead. Photo by Travis Fant.

Eli Tomac made quick work of Colt Nichols at the start and took over. He was never seriously challenged all the way to the finish, but Justin Barcia didn’t give up any ground and remained close. Chase Sexton was third after the second lap, but the top three pulled away from everyone else, including Cooper Webb. That spelled the end of Webb’s co-ownership of the red place, as his combined score placed him in fourth and 7 point out of the series lead. Jason Anderson also had a rough final race, going down hard in the whoops.

250 RACE 1

Jett Lawrence had to pass Levi Kitchen to win the first 250 race. Photo by Travis Fant.

The first race was called back to the gate after two laps when Stiles Robertson went down and was injured. Jett Lawrence had been in front. On the restart, Levi Kitchen got the start, but soon Lawrence was back in control. RJ Hampshire passed Kitchen after a few laps but couldn’t do anything with Lawrence.

Levi Kitchen got another great start with RJ Hampshire right behind him. Lawrence was struggling with Max Vohland in the early laps. Eventually, Lawrence broke away from that challenge, but couldn’t catch Kitchen, which put all the pressure on the final race.

250 RACE 3

For Levi Kitchen it was another great start and a great race. But for Jett Lawrence, it was an especially sweet win combined with his first Triple Crown victory of the season. Lawrence passed Kitchen early in the race and gradually pulled away. RJ Hampshire started back in sixth, then got into third place very quickly. From there, it was a dead end. He caught up to Kitchen at first, then made a big mistake in the whoops and ever quite regained his momentum.
