The first day of the 2019 Motocross of Nations has officially concluded and Team Belgium are the men of the hour, taking top honors after today’s qualifying motos. Jeremy Van Horebeek kicked the day off with a third in the MXGP qualifier, followed Jago Geerts placing fourth in the MX2 qualifier and finally Kevin Strijbos coming away with a second place finish in the Open qualifying moto. Team Netherlands was right there with the Belgians, though, tying in points, thanks to Jeffrey Herlings’ fifth in MXGP, Calvin Vlaanderen’s second in MX2 and Glenn Coldenhoff’s third in Open. Belgium only took the top spot due to their better third moto finish. Things have gone pretty well for the American’s thus far in their European excursion, most notably with Justin Cooper taking the MX2 qualifying moto win over a stacked field of riders. Jason Anderson helped with his fifth place in MXGP, but Zach Osborne admittedly struggled a bit in the Open qualifier, finishing eighth. Here’s how the rest of the riders and teams rounded out the qualifiers here in Assen: (for extended coverage of the 2019 Motocross of Nations in Assen, click here.)
