2017 1/2 KTM FACTORY EDITIONS ANNOUNCED

KTM announced its 2017 1/2 Factory Editions today in Corona California. This has become a tradition that precedes each new Supercross season. The idea behind these models is to allow the race team to use the absolute latest technology without fear of violating the AMA production rule. The current rules state that the factory riders must use the same frame and engine cases as on the production bikes sold to the public. On three occasions in the past five years, the bikes that Ryan Dungey and his teammates rode would not have been legal if not for the last-minute release of the FEs. The side benefit is that the public also has a shot at these bikes, if they don’t mind paying a modest premium.  They also get factory graphics and other upgrades.

This year, there’s nothing about the frame or motors of the 450SX-F and 250SX-F Factory Editions that’s different from the production 2017 models, beyond cosmetics. The bikes have a number of suspension changes and they still have a very factory look. They will be available in dealerships soon in limited number. Below is the official press release:

A powerful – yet compact – DOHC engine, refined WP AER 48 forks, orange anodized triple clamps, an FMF titanium muffler, launch control and D.I.D. DirtStar rims make for a READY TO RACE machine that has no equal.
