Big 500cc two-strokes have graduated to legend status in the motocross world. There hasn’t been a 500 AMA Pro championship since 1993 and no manufacturer has offered one in over a decade. That makes them highly desired on the used-bike market, and a good one can command big money. This one wasn’t a good one. Austin Perkins found it in poor condition and embarked on a long, eventful rebuilding process. Now that the project is done, it’s about as good as a Honda 500 could be.
