1987 HONDA CR250 ENDURO PROJECT: TWO-STROKE TUESDAY

We take a look back at a Honda CR250 Enduro project the Dirt Bike Magazine staff did in May/June of 1987 on this week’s Two-Stroke Tuesday brought to you by Boyesen. 2-Stroke Hardware features new items from Polisport and the Flying Machine Factory while 2-Stroke Theater is full of premix burning machines in action for your viewing pleasure. This machine was built in two parts for the 1987 May/June issues and for the time featured a huge amount of aftermarket products. Some of the companies involved included Hi-Point, CEET, ICO, Acerbis, Finish Line Products, Devol, Metzeler, Answer Racing, Sidewinder, Krause, Boyesen, Race Tech and more.

Who Remembers the Answer Roost Boost? It fit between the lower CDI and upper unit altering the spark duration. This machine also had Boyesen Reeds, Krause Kannon pipe and an Answer SA silencer.

The wild thing about this build internally was the aftermarket parts offered by Honda. Back in 1987 they offered a wide-ratio transmission kit with a taller third, fourth and fifth gear at a bargain for $195.00. Honda also offered a generator kit that provided 25-watt lighting system. Yes that is a Krause Kannon and plastic skid plate.

The finished product was a masterpiece! Giles Lalay, the overall winner of the 1985 I.S.D.E. on a modified CR250 was instrumental in the development of both the wide-ratio transmission designed by Honda of Holland and AC Generator. The suspension was revalved by Race Tech and the linkage featured a Zerk-Kit from Cancilla Products making it easy to keep those bearings greased up.

The CR250 Enduro project worked better the nastier the conditions got.
