BLAST FROM THE PAST

Team Honda’s Warren Reid on his way to winning the overall in the 250’s, at 1976 Sears Point Trans Am. Check out Warren’s Factory Honda, it’s cobby being a hybrid of production pieces mated to works suspension. This was the era of suspension evolution and Honda used a somewhat pedestrian approach by moving the shocks forward and then fitting on a much stronger steel swingarm. Two things, notice the trick chain guide and more importantly- the FMF sticker on Warrens visor. This was the start of a dynasty. Thanks Mark Kiel for the epic pic.

HONDA (finally) ANNOUNCES ROCZEN SIGNING

American Honda Motor. Co. is proud to announce the highly anticipated signing of two-time AMA Pro Motocross Champion Ken Roczen to a three-year agreement with Team Honda HRC. The young German rider will pilot the all-new 2017 CRF450R alongside new teammate Cole Seely in the AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross series. Honda has released a special video to celebrate the announcement. Check out the video, it appears that KR may have very little trouble adjusting to the new CRF450 and a team that means business.

PHOENIX ENDUROCROSS THIS WEEKEND!

Three rounds into the EnduroCross season has proved that the level of competition at the top has made for some seriously incredible racing. Colton Haaker pretty much dominated the first two, with Cody Webb finally breaking out and winning round three. Both Cody and Colton LAPPED up to third place in Salt Lake City!

Colton Haaker looks to be Cody Webb’s main nemesis this year. He has his 350 Husky working well, he rides loose and appears to have controlled his reckless side that has hurt him in the past.

The AMA EnduroCross series will make a first time visit to the state of Arizona this weekend and Taylor Robert headlines a long list of locals ready to showcase their talent inside the WestWorld Arena. Robert, a two time EnduroCross main event winner, is coming off his first ever FIM Enduro World Champioship event win last week in France. Several of the top stars of EnduroCross call the Phoenix area home including Beta’s Max Gerston, Cooper Abbott, Mason Ottersberg and Mitch Carvolth, who happens to be Robert’s roommate.

Reigning number one Cody Webb had nothing for Haaker in the first two rounds. It’s interesting that upper echelon has switched to four strokes as their machines of choice.

Taddy is back in the states but has had miserable results. In round one he looked good (3rd) but has crashed out in both of the remaining rounds. He’s definitely lacking the finesse of Webb and Haaker, which is interesting since he basically ushered the sport into existence.

Kurt Nicoll to race AZ Enduro Cross on a electric Alta motors Redshift MX machine

Kurt Nicoll,  will be competing in Round 4 of the 2016 EnduroCross series on a Redshift MX electric powered machine. This is a first for Kurt, for Alta and for the EnduroCross series. Alta  started working with Nicoll a few months back to develop the Redshift for EnduroCross competition, and they have been thrilled with the results. After countless hours on the Redshift, Nicoll said, “I’ve seen a lot of companies try to make an electric dirt bike before, but Alta is the first one to make a proper full size dirt bike, and it’s the real deal. The chassis feels just like the bikes I’ve been riding all my life, but with smooth manageable power delivery that will prove to be a weapon on the track.”

With 13 GP wins, seven British titles and two AMA supermoto championships under his belt, Kurt Nicoll has demonstrated time and again that he is one of the most dominant veteran riders in the field today. If you can’t make the event, keep an eye on our social channels as we’ll be sure to share the results from Arizona as soon as we have them. And if you want to see the broadcast, the race will air on CBS Sports October 13th, at 8pm.

This is my little fun ride. And #66 gets prime real estate on the Wolf skateboard. I still miss him…

And here’s KC early in his career but carrying the 66 number. I shot this up at Gorman when Kurt showed up practicing on his 250.

I have a single Joel Robert Replica Sidi boot on my desk. What sets it apart is that it is signed by Joel himself!

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

img_1951-1
Wolf and his 1973 DT3 250 Yamaha. A couple of interesting notes here, this bike cost be 899.00 out the door. I borrowed the money from my girl friend. I never paid her back, she married me and it last 40 years. The broken foot came in a first turn crash at a friday night Dunes race and you’ll notice that I rocked Jones foam in the Takasago rims.  One other side thought; I still lived at home and my parents didn’t know I was racing. I kept the bike at Roost’s best friends house…now how manly is that?
