BLAST FROM THE PAST

Larry Roeseler, circa 1986 on one of the brand new Husky air-cooled 4-strokes. LR proved to be a magician on the machine, both racing it and starting it! The twin piper was ornery to the mere mortal and LR told me that he listened and felt what the bike was telling him. He never kicked hard and rarely more than three kicks. This is Whiskey Pete’s 1986.

372-1017_723

The goal for Alpinestars 2017 MX line should come as no surprise; Innovation and Technical Evolution. With great success, Alpinestars’ has Re-Imagined the full Techstar line and has also made many advancements from the Racer line predecessor.

‘No limitations’ is what has been echoed from the test riders. Alpinestars’ Adaptive Stretch Technology offers maximum freedom of movement to the rider through elastic stretch panels in key areas below the yoke, in the crotch, on the thighs, and down the back of the legs. All these areas work in conjunction with one another providing peak mobility to the rider. The Techstar Jersey has achieved a new level of performance through lighter weight moisture wicking fabrics, textured and treated polyester, and stretchable mesh inserts.

The pants also feature a pre-curved knee, designed to fit Alpinestars knee braces and protectors.

How’s this print I found laying around the office? Looks like a Joel Robert’s Factory Suzuki from 1972

In fact this was to be Joel Robert’s last World Championship (his 6th) and the Factory Suzuki was by far the most wicked motocrosser every made. It weighed in at 168 pounds and was mated to huge amounts of rumors, innuendo and little fact. The main ingredient here was factory trickery, they were pitted against CZ ( a hugely over built motocrosser) and Husqvarna, led by Torsten Hallman and the machine was virtually hand built by the factory. 1972 was the last year of the 168 pound machine because all of the factories balked that they couldn’t compete so the FIM put a weight limit on the class.

For an incredible story about the restoration of the bike go to http://www.mxworksbike.com/index.php/history/mx-history/136-finding-joel-robert-s-1972-world-championship-suzuki

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

IMG_0100
This was 1987, Whiskey Pete’s and one of my favorite bikes of all time, a Honda CR250. I raced quite a bit in local enduros and some bigger races and the motocrosser was totally competitive in basic stock form. I ran an Acerbis big tank and Paul Thede valved and sprung the suspension for my tonnage. BTW, check out the chocolate dirt, this race was epic, cold as snot and tough!
