BLAST FROM THE PAST

10590499_1467435466847623_9061125850171185731_n
Goat Breker on his Husqvarna at Saddleback, circa 1978. Goat raced Husky’s in ’78 and 79, for Kawasaki in  ’80 and ’82, Honda factory in ’83 and back to green for ’84 and ’85. On a side note, we got this from Mike Hannon, a former National Enduro star in the 70’s.

The Goat and I were involved thanks to Walt Axthelm doing testing on the Kawasaki KDX BIKES 78 OR 79? He ran over a squirrel at Saddleback and killed it and then put it in my tool box.  I discovered it the next week due to the aroma of spoiled meat and a tool box full of fur bones and maggots.

Thanks Goat wherever you are

NATIONAL ENDURO KICKOFF VIDEO: THIS HAS SOME GREAT WOODS RACING ACTION!

After over 60 miles of racing, only one second separated the top two finishers at the opening round of the 2017 Kenda AMA National Enduro Series presented by Moose Racing in Sumter, South Carolina, as SRT Racing’s Steward Baylor topped FMF/KTM Factory Off-road Racing’s Kailub Russell in a tense and exciting display of competition that was most surely a preview of what’s to come during the remaining eight rounds.

A BLAST FROM MY PAST…

1956890_1497959453795224_3642463673040339909_o
International Yamaha’s the late Larry Shoemaker at Indian Dunes circa 1975. Larry was a good friend and played a big role in me testing the off-road waters in 1974 when we went riding out in Acton. Back then you could park anywhere and hit it. We did a loop to Little Rock dam and back. I was stunned that Larry could find his way, since I was a motocrosser who freaked when I couldn’t see my truck when I was on the track. Once again, Mark Kiel gets kudos for snapping and storing the photo for 42 years.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY

IMG_0181
I’ve been thinking about my buddy Casey Folks who recently passed, and then I ran across this photo of me racing the 1994 Nevada Rally. Casey laid out the event for Franco Acerbis on the advice from Bill Berroth.  The bike was as factory as it gets, a Honda XR628 fitted with every setting and part that the Team Honda guys used in Baja. The one thing I remember Bruce Ogilvie telling me when I asked, “on long straights how long can I stay in it?” Bruce just looked and said “Never lift, this bike can go all day pinned.” And with that there were several long, long two-track roads where I stayed ‘max’ for minutes on end. Honestly it scared the crap out of me!
